Gaul was a land of many tribes. Most of it is today’s France, plus nearby country.

Julius Caesar wrote a book about his wars there. He wanted it to make him look brave. We should read it with care. Gaul later became a Roman land with towns, roads, and Latin.

Caesar’s Gallic War
Caesar’s army fought across Gaul. Many people suffered. Vercingetorix led a last big stand.
52 BC
Alesia
Caesar trapped Vercingetorix at a hill town. The Gallic army lost. Some details of the siege come mainly from Caesar himself.
