The later Empire
Aetius
He was a western general who fought Attila in Gaul.
Years. About AD 390 to AD 454
We are not sure. His birth year is approximate. The battle of 451 did not destroy Attila forever.
Three short facts
- 1He had lived among Huns as a hostage when he was young.
- 2He led a mixed army at the Catalaunian Plains in AD 451.
- 3Emperor Valentinian III killed him in AD 454.
The story
Aetius was the man holding many western armies together.
He sometimes allied with Huns, and later fought Attila.
The battle in Gaul stopped a big invasion.
It was not the end of every problem.
The emperor then feared Aetius and killed him.
