The Republic
Crixus
He was a gladiator who fought beside Spartacus.
Years. Died in 72 BC. Birth year unknown.
Not from the city of Rome
We are not sure. His birth year and much of his life before the escape are unknown. Even the story of how the leaders split is told in more than one way.
Three short facts
- 1He escaped a gladiator school with Spartacus.
- 2He was likely from Gaul.
- 3He died in battle before the revolt ended.
The story
Crixus was trained to fight for crowds.
He broke free with Spartacus and other men.
They won fights against Roman soldiers.
Then the leaders split.
Crixus led one group.
A Roman army beat that group, and he was killed.
