The Empire
Seneca
He was a writer and a teacher of Nero.
Years. About 4 BC to AD 65
We are not sure. His birth year is about 4 BC, not nailed down.
Three short facts
- 1He was born in Corduba, in Hispania.
- 2He wrote about staying calm when life is hard.
- 3Nero ordered him to die in AD 65.
The story
Seneca wrote essays and plays about virtue.
He also got very rich at Nero’s court.
Those two facts sit awkwardly together.
When Nero no longer trusted him, Seneca’s life ended on the emperor’s order.
